To follow up on my previous post I ask this question. Would any professional athlete bring sub standard equipment to the game being played? I don’t think so. So what I have now is my short list of tools I use, combined with those awesome ingredients we can produce something wonderful to munch on!
Now I must admit that choosing five tools is very hard. So I’m going with the most important ones to me. If you want to bake well your tools will help. Quality tools themselves can help to train you to become efficient in your baking. I’m going to list a few in random order, ones that have helped me improve my baking skills.
Stand Mixer: I love the freedom that came when I first started using one. I could complete my process so much faster with not being tied to a hand mixer. The rotation and consistency of the beaters helps to produce A great cake batter and can really turn a stiff cookie dough.
Measuring Cups: Cups for liquid which should have a pour spout. Dry measure cups have a straight edge. Accuracy is important. And lets not forget accurate Measuring Spoons. There are lots of pretty cups and spoons available now but be sure they measure correctly. When in doubt stainless steel is a good choice.
Digital Kitchen Scale: I have discovered I really like the easiness and accuracy of weighing. Most recipes come with measuring and weighing options.
Baking Pans: Good quality baking pans in several sizes. Use the size your recipe calls for.
Sifter: I have the old fashion turn the handle one. It just works!
Spoons & Spatulas: Rubber, silicone and metal. Good quality ones so they are comfortable to your hands. You will appreciate that when you are in the large batch of cookie dough. Offset spatulas in different sizes are great.
And I just can’t leave the next one out!
Parchment Paper: I have it in rolls. Super excited when I found it precut in 8″ & 9″ rounds. No more drawing circles and cutting! Also comes in the half sheet size 18 x13 which fits my cookie sheet.
So this is just the beginning of what I want to share with you. There is much more to come. Right now let’s just use what we have and BAKE!
